Information on the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)

This article gives you more information on the EUDR and what to expect

What is the EUDR?

The EUDR stands for the EU Deforestation Regulation and is a law that aims to reduce global deforestation and forest degradation.

Any company who trades in cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soya or wood (or anything derived from these commodities) needs to complete extensive due diligence to prove that their products are “deforestation-free” and compliant to local legislation - this means simply that products should originate from land that was not deforested for agricultural use.

Requests sent to you regarding this law are mandatory and must be completed by EU law. If you do not, you run the risk of losing business relationships with your customers.

How does the EUDR affect me?

The EUDR focuses on the wider supply chain, meaning that any company around the world who produces, manufactures or trades in the 7 commodities above will need to provide information on their operations. This information is treated securely and fairly and the process is managed by the European Commission.

Why am I receiving this request?

You have been identified as a supplier that falls within the requirements of the EUDR. This means that you manufacture products that are affected by the legislation, and so need to provide important information like product description, geolocation, producer’s name and production date.

What happens if I don’t comply with the EUDR?

This is a mandatory request and very important for your business relationship with companies operating in the EU buying from you. The EUDR is not a choice, it is a standard, so if you do not comply companies operating in the EU will not be able to import, sell and process your products and it is likely that companies will have to stop doing business with you.
